What Each Certification Covers
DfE (Design for the Environment)
A related EPA programme, used primarily for disinfectant products where Safer Choice's general cleaning criteria don't directly apply, since disinfectants go through a separate regulatory track.
CII GreenPro
India's national eco-label, issued by CII-ITC CESD. Uses a lifecycle assessment approach — raw material through disposal — with a 100-point credit system for cleaning chemicals (50+ points earns certification). Recognised in IGBC green building ratings.
Choosing the Right Reference Point
- Tracking an IGBC green-building rating in India? GreenPro is the one that directly contributes rating credit.
- Following an international or US-linked procurement standard? EPA Safer Choice is more widely recognised.
- Buying disinfectant products specifically? Check for the DfE label.
Never Trust the Logo Alone
Ask for the certificate number and check it directly against the EPA Safer Choice product directory or the CII GreenPro product directory. This five-minute check protects you from products using "green" language without genuine third-party certification behind it.
